Rid Your Face of Acne Scars

July 13th, 2012

Ever Wonder How to Reduce or Get Rid of Acne Scarring?

Suffering from acne can be an embarrassing and frustrating experience.  However, it can get worse; acne can turn into acne scarring.  Scarring can be as noticeable as acne itself and appear as a permanent reminder of past skin health issues.  There are options nowadays to lighten the scar or perhaps completely remove any physicality that acne was ever a problem.

There is some positive news; scars can be avoided if you can prevent them in the first place. For example, there may be a myth that says popping your acne helps.

Learn the facts; never try to pop your pimple or zit yourself; this increases the chances of scarring and can lead to an infection.  Try to avoid touching acne at all costs.

Avoid excessive face washing.  Once in the morning and again before bedtime is sufficient.  Over washing can irritate the skin and the scarring on the surface.  Even patients with oily skin can strip the natural oils by harsh cleansing which are essential for healthy skin.  Unless instructed by your skin care specialist, try to keep the face washing to a minimum.

Beyond natural remedies, consider laser treatments and medical-grade facials performed by skin care specialists and doctors.  Laser treatments are usually performed by trained and licensed aestheticians or doctors.  Laser resurfacing with an erbium laser directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin. Laser skin resurfacing removes skin very precisely, layer by layer. This popular procedure is known by several other names, including lasabrasion, laser peel or laser vaporization.

Erbium laser resurfacing is designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face, hands, neck, or chest. One of the benefits of erbium laser resurfacing is minimal burning of surrounding tissue. This laser causes fewer side effects, such as swelling, bruising, and redness, so your recovery time is expedited to a week or less.  Laser treatments work best with certain skin types. Consult with your specialist to find out if you are a candidate.

Microdermabrasion removes the dead layers of skin which can help fade scarring of the skin however; no lasers are utilized.  All patients can benefit from microdermabrasions.  Like laser treatment, the top layer of your skin is also removed. There is no major downtime associated with microdermabrasions.

Chemical peels are probably the most common type of treatment being offered. There are several solutions and degrees of chemical peels; the right peel will be suggested to you by your skin care specialist once examined.  It is always a good idea for you to ensure that the person performing the task is reliable. Like laser treatment and microdermabrasion, the top layer of the skin is also removed, but using safe chemicals.

There is a skin treatment to help or rid almost any skin condition.  Be sure to visit a doctor or specialist that has your best intentions at heart.  There is no one-treatment-fits-all approach in skin care.  Never share prescriptions or creams with a friend without consulting a medical professional prior.
