While it’s not at the top of most health concerns, new research links high cholesterol to more serious conditions than heart attack and stroke. Here is why getting your cholesterol checked should be your next move:

1. As stated by the Duke Cancer Institute Study, a by-product of cholesterol functions in mice like the hormone estrogen — and having too much can fuel the growth and spread of the most common types of breast cancers.

2. Individual with high LDL — also known as bad cholesterol — prompt additional amyloid plaque deposits—which are associated with dementia and Alzheimer's, reports a study in JAMA Neurology.

3. If your diet comprises of high-cholesterol foods (such as processed meats, packaged baked goods, and fried foods) you are not only hurting your waistline, but this can also be linked to hearing loss, as reported in The Journal of Nutrition.
