A Good Candidate For A Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

You’ve given several successful births and finally lost the weight of pregnancy. But your stomach is no where near as attractive as its pre-pregnancy look. A tummy tuck may be your answer.

The ideal candidates for a tummy tuck are those who regularly eat well and exercise but struggle with resistant fat and saggy skin. If you are considering tummy tuck surgery, be sure you know exactly what a tummy tuck is. A tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure, such as liposuction. Rather, a tummy tuck tightens the muscles and loose skin on the abdomen to smooth and firm the area. Tummy tuck surgery targets the loose skin and fat that will not disappear with exercise.

Good candidates are generally women after childbirth whose skin is stretched and will not return to its flat, pre-pregnancy shape. Pregnancy stretches the underlying muscles so that they become lax, making toning of the abdomen difficult.

Other candidates are men and women who have excess stretched skin from significant weight-loss. Elderly patients also seek tummy tuck surgery to combat normal symptoms of aging. Aging causes skin to sag and lose elasticity. These patients represent good candidates for a tummy tuck.

Good candidates for a tummy tuck are in good health and physical shape. It is also important to have realistic expectations of tummy tuck surgery

Who is NOT a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
Women of childbearing age who are still considering pregnancy should not undergo tummy tuck surgery quite yet. Pregnancy will re-stretch the muscles and skin tightened by the tummy tuck. Patients will not want to become pregnant after undergoing tummy tuck.

Teenagers and young adults are generally not good candidates for a tummy tuck. Younger patients do not generally have enough loose or excess skin to qualify for a tummy tuck.
