Neck Lift Surgery Defined

As people age skin looses its elasticity, muscles slacken and fat and tissue can begin to slide. The neck is one of the first places to show signs of facial aging. Neck lift surgery can remove rolls of fat, loose skin and deep creases caused by lack of muscle definition and rejuvenate your neck and jawline for more definition and a renewed youthful appearance.

A Good Candidate For Neck Lift Surgery

If your neck is looking saggy due to aging, a significant amount of weight loss has left loose skin under the jawline or you want to remove excess fat from the neck you may be a candidate for neck lift surgery. There is no age limit, however patients are advised to wait until 18 years of age before undergoing any cosmetic procedure.

Neck Lift Surgery Procedure

Neck lift surgery, a cosmetic surgery procedure combining platysmaplasty (the removal of excess skin) and cervicoplasty (the alteration of neck muscles), is commonly performed alongside a facelift to improve the definition of the neck.

Cosmetic surgeons make two small incisions behind the ear and another under the chin. Excess fat deposits and muscle is removed to add definition to the neck. Loose skin is trimmed and lifted before being sutured into position. If a lot of excess fat needs to be removed liposuction may be performed at the same time as a neck lift.

Neck Lift Surgery Recovery And Results

Neck-lift patients should begin to see results a week after surgery once the post-surgery swelling has subsided. A compression bandage will need to be worn for 2-5 days to reduce swelling and to prevent serious bruising. Following neck lift surgery the neck will have more definition and will appear firmer. Patients may notice that the neck looks significantly thinner following a neck lift.

Cost Of Neck Lift Surgery

The cost of neck lift surgery varies according to the location of treatment, the type of procedure and if neck lift surgery is combined with any other cosmetic procedure to enhance the results.
