What Is A Mommy Makeover?

The combination of a tummy tuck and a breast augmentation is known as a Mommy Makeover.  The term Mommy Makeover came from millions of women who complained about sagging breasts and extra skin and fat in the abdominal section.  When the two surgeries are combined, the end result is drastic; a firmer, more youthful body is revealed.

A Good Candidate For Mommy Makeover

Today’s mother is a busy woman who wants to provide for her family, yet still feel good about herself.  This is a type of patient I see often in my office.

90% of women experience stretch marks from pregnancy or other factors.  In addition, it is more difficult for mothers to lose the baby weight, as their body changes significantly after pregnancy.  Exercise and diet are factors that everyone can control, but then there’s loss of elasticity and loose skin that occurs after pregnancy.  Lasers, weight loss or any diet cannot shrink skin enough to compensate for most post-pregnancy skin issues, which is why these women are a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover.

If you’re concerned about your body’s changes after pregnancy, I suggest you do your research and schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. No one has to live in a body that they are uncomfortable with. There are cosmetic surgical advancements, like the Mommy Makeover, that are safe and effective for many patients.

Mommy Makeover Procedure

Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, is the first step in the Mommy Makeover procedure. It helps to flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess fat and skin and tightening stomach muscles. The best candidates for tummy tuck surgery have pockets of fat or loose skin that haven't responded well to diet and exercise. The tummy tuck procedure can also be useful for women with stretched skin and muscles as a result of pregnancy.  The tummy tuck procedure takes approximately two to five hours and can be performed with general anesthesia or local anesthesia with a sedative. Recovery time ranges from two weeks to a few months. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, results are long-lasting. I have noticed a high satisfaction rate with tummy tuck procedures.

With loose skin of the abdomen from pregnancy, also come sagging breasts.  Breast augmentation is the second step in the Mommy Makeover procedure, and it has steadily become one of the highest sought out cosmetic surgeries for all types of women.  Breast augmentation is a fairly simple plastic surgery procedure with a high satisfaction rate.  Women may elect to undergo breast augmentation for many different medical and aesthetic motivations including, balancing breast size and compensating for reduced breast mass after pregnancy or weight loss surgery. The procedure may be combined with other surgeries like breast lift or tummy tuck for more satisfying results.
