Cool Lipo

Today’s society is fueled by faced-paced technology. Because of this, people want results and they want them now, hence the explosion of plastic surgery clinics, cosmetic dentistry, diet supplements and vitamins. Is it possible to reap the same results the same with quicker and newer technologies?  Cool Lipo is a laser-assisted liposuction procedure that leaves patients thrilled with the results. Many patients are shocked by the very minimal downtime and recovery, but is this latest liposuction technique for everyone?

Cool Lipo Procedure

Traditional liposuction is a serious decision and in most cases, very successful. Liposuction surgically removes extra fat from beneath the skin using a hollow stainless steel tube (called a cannula) with the assistance of a powerful vacuum. Liposuction can be accomplished either with the use of general anesthesia, or with heavy IV sedation. Many patients seeking out liposuction religiously exercise and eat a healthy diet, but are still bothered by the pockets of fat that just don’t disappear. Other patients use liposuction as a solution to further enhance the figure following weight-loss surgery.

In reality, the laser-assisted liposuction method, Cool Lipo, is a form of liposuction—with the additional step of applying the laser energy before using the liposuction cannula to remove what has been treated with the laser. Cool Lipo is generally used to treat small problem areas under local anesthesia in the plastic surgeon’s office. Conventional liposuction is good for to removing greater amounts of fat and typically requires general anesthesia.

A Good Candidate For Cool Lipo

A good candidate for Cool Lipo is in a healthy weight range, with no pre-existing health issues. The ideal candidate for Cool Lipo wants to remove a pocket of fat and tighten the skin, but is otherwise satisfied with their appearance. Laser-assisted liposuction or Cool Lipo uses a cannula with an attached laser light to liquefy fat cells. Once liquefied, the liquid fat is then removed through traditional liposuction incisions using standard liposuction cannulas. Manufacturers of these devices promote “skin tightening” and “decreased recovery time” as the main advantages.

Other Factors To Consider

The most important piece of advice when considering any form of liposuction, research all of the factors and choose a board-certified plastic surgeon – price shouldn’t be the ultimate factor. To minimize complications, it is crucial to research many plastic surgery clinics and ask a lot questions during the consultations. Choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon with the most experience is very important, but patients should also be comfortable with the plastic surgeon’s bedside manner.

CoolLipo Can Remove My Fat Where?

CoolLipo has been touted the number one non-invasive cosmetic procedure in 2010 for good reason. Unlike traditional liposuction which is too invasive to be used on sensitive parts of the body, CoolLipo's extremely accurate laser-based technique makes it safe for even the most thin-skinned and smallest pockets of fat of body parts.

CoolLipo can be performed on almost any area where you have unwanted fat. CoolLipo can be used on larger areas as well, however; the precise laser and suction power works best in areas that traditional liposuction can’t reach efficiently. In addition to removing fat, laserlipo or CoolLipo promotes the growth of collagen under the skin. Collagen, one of the most abundant substances found in the human body, is a major factor in human aging. Collagen breaks down due to aging, sun damage or injury, leaving the outer layer of skin slack, causing wrinkling, thick creases, folds of skin and facial sagging. But when more collagen is added --- or induced to grow on its own -- skin becomes tighter, creating a more youthful, vigorous and rested appearance. Over a 6 month period, the patient can expect to notice tighter, firmer skin.

A hollow pen-sized instrument called a cannula is inserted into the fatty area by a plastic surgeon. Because the cannula is only 1mm – 2mm in diameter, CoolLipo is minimally invasive and also provides a quick recovery and reduces the risk of bruising. Laser Lipo commonly is used to sculpt the body and remove fat of the following areas:
• Chin
• Neck
• Upper arm
• Waist/Hips
• Knees
• Inner/Outer Thighs
• Ankles

Usually, only one treatment is required; a session may last from 45 minutes to one hour for each area treated. Results can be seen as soon as a week, with continued improvement over several months. An added bonus is the minimal downtime and recovery involved. Within 24 – 48 hours after the procedure, most patients return to work and daily life activities with minimal soreness. With smartlipo, no anesthesia is needed – just local anesthetic; this decreases the risk of a negative reaction.
