tonsilitis and sore throats

hello i am 19 yrs and i have been having recurring tonsillitis for a very long time, especially between the age of 7-15. Every time i get a sore throat it graduates to tonsillitis and causes headaches and sometimes i cannot talk.what should i do to decrease the rate at which they come or should i remove them. I rarely take sugary things and cold drinks. One cuase i know is cold drinks before bed and since im from kenya and currently in malaysia the change in climate makes it hard for me not to take cold drinks My blood pressure has always been normal and i did a swab test once and there was nothing growing in my mouth
please help
