Breast reduction (or reduction mammaplasty) is an enhancement procedure that reshapes the breasts in order to make them smaller, lighter, and firmer. Reduction is accomplished by removing excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin.
Large breasts may cause physical and mental discomfort and can even harm the women who have them, the size and weight of large breasts can result in self-consciousness, improper posture, pain in the back and neck, indentations from bra straps, skin rashes, breathing problems and skeletal deformities.
Performed under general anesthesia, the two- to four-hour procedure removes fat and glandular tissue and trims resultant excess skin to produce smaller, lighter breasts that are in a healthier proportion to the rest of the body.

Hi ,Thank you for your question. My name is Ilhan. I’m the patient coordinator for Memorial Hizmet Hospital ISTANBUL-TURKEY. The response from Erkut Ozdamar,Plastic Surgeon is as follows . For more information please contact us by viewing Memorial Hizmet Hospital’s profile.

Large breasts may cause shoulder and neck pain, lead to being hunchbacked in women.Though aesthetic breast reduction surgery seems to be a cosmetic surgery made to ameliorate outer appearance of a woman, it is a surgery that has functional benefits. The post-op period is generally comfortable. There might be pain and limitations in arm movements. A wrap similar to brassiere is applied on breasts or the patient is wears brassiere. Two pipelets named drain are placed generally on two breasts and removed within 24-72 hours. The same dressing is applied on the nipple. The dressing is opened two days later and the wound is checked. Wounds are opened seven days later. Stitches are removed after 7-10 days. In the beginning, there might be swelling, absence of senses at nipples and an empurpled colour alteration on the skin. They disappear in a short time. The patient can get back to her work 1 week later. After two – three weeks, she may perform light sports like walking, slow running. From the second month onwards, all activities are free.
