How to stick to a diet after weight loss surgery

Weight loss surgery is a last resort to loose those excess kilos putting health at risk but sticking to the recommended diet after surgery can be tough. What advice would you give to help patients stay on track?

Than you for your question. My name is Ilhan. I am ther patient coordinator for Memorial Hizmet Hospital ISTANBUL-TURKEY.The response from Dr.Tuğrul Demirel,MD,Bariatric&Metbolic Surgeon is as follows;

Bariatric procedures can be pure restrictive or a combination of restriction and malabsorption. Restrictive procedures such as gastric banding or sleeve gastrectomy, only limits the amount of the food you intake. None of them limits the absorption of the ingredients. So if you keep consuming high calorie liquids, your operation will fail to loose weight and far more you may have to face the complications. For malabsorptive procedures the issue is different. We re-form your anatomy and build up a new physiology. You should clearly understand this new design exactly before the operation. If the patient properly uses this new physiology, every thing goes quite well. Never forget that Gastric Bypass and Biliopancreatic diversion forms strong malabsorption of fat and starch. If you consume large amount of fat, severe diarrhea will occur. If you consume starch so much, Dumping Syndrome will occur. Vommiting and fatique can also be seen.
