Hi Gill,

Capsular formation is a natural body response to your silicon breast implant. Its the one that holds your implant in place. However, sometimes the capsule thickens. To prevent this, its prudent to do breast massage. It will be best for you to ask your surgeon how often and how long should you do your massage.

Also some doctors prescribe anti-asthma drugs that may soften the capsule and give a more natural feel for the breast.

Hope this may help

Dear Patient,

The most widely used breast implant is "cohesive gel" made of silicone. There are two types of the cohesive gel. The first one is called "smooth" and the second one is called "textured". These days, textured type is more preferred because it has a very low chance of getting capsular contracture compared to the smooth one. Also, there is no need for breast massage in case of using the textured type. So, the recovery period and pain will be less.

In addition, we prescribe medications to prevent capsular contracture.
