How is a collapsed larynx treated?

II have had a persistent cough for several months, am being treated for gastric reflux, and am not being helped. I notice that my windpipe has dropped since this cough has developed, and if I press up gently on my throat/chin area, the cough seems to go away. What kind of examination/treatment should I seek? I have read about treatment for vocal cord dysfunction and wonder if that might be effective.
