Than you for your question.My name is Ilhan. I am the patient coordinator for Memorial Hizmet Hospital ISTANBUL- TURKEY. The response from Dr.Tuğrul Demirel, MD,Bariatric&Metabolic Surgeon is as follows;

Diabetes has two types; Type l (Kongenital – Genetic Defficiency of Pancreas) and Type ll ( Due to obesity and Acquired ). Morbid obesity is the major reason in type ll DM. The morbid obese patients with Type ll DM generally have a non-deficient pancreas and when loose weight diabetes may cure. The pure restrictive procedure like gastric banding and sleeve gastrectomy can cure diabetes to some extent due to the achieved weight loss. However malabsorbtive procedures like Gastric Bypass and Biliopancreatic Diversion reveals metabolic changes and Diabetes can be cured up to 100 % in morbid obese patients.
